Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau (刘德华) has a close relationship with Malaysia because of his Malaysian wife, Carol Chu (朱麗蒨). The devoted Buddhist is also big on philanthropy, so much so that his name was reportedly inscribed onto a temple in Klang.
A while back, there were reports that Andy and his wife were regular visitors of the Tian Hock Kung (天福宫) Snake Temple in Klang. As a thank-you for their patronage and generous donations, the temple would later inscribe their daughter’s name onto a stone pillar in the temple. However, local news outlet Sin Chew recently visited the temple, only to discover that the 63-year-old also has his name etched onto a pillar in the temple – albeit under a pseudonym.
The news outlet found the name “Lau Ya-Wing (transliteration from 刘亚荣)” inscribed onto a pillar in the temple, with a respected title. It’s believed “Lau Ya-Wing” is Andy’s pseudonym using his birth name, Lau Fook-Wing (刘福荣), with the middle character switched out. However, most impressively, Sin Chew also discovered the amount of donations the Hong Kong actor has made to the temple; totaling up to more than RM100,000.
Andy and his family can also be found in other parts of the temple, including on a blessing card that is hung on a kumquat tree on the premises. Andy’s pseudonym was also found on a plaque with an image of an ox, which is the star’s zodiac sign. As for why the public figure has an affinity towards the temple, it was alleged that the temple is the one Carol’s family have been visiting for many years.
Interestingly, the staff at the temple wouldn’t directly confirm that “Lau Ya-Wing” is indeed the Hong Kong superstar. Instead, they had the chief priest throw divination blocks for “the heavens” to certify that it was Andy Lau. However, they did mention that the singer is very humble and tries to keep a low profile when visiting the temple. According to sources, his last visit was at least four years ago.
