The superhumans you’ve come to know in 2006’s “Heroes” will be reborn via a reboot this coming fall because a number of new characters will be featured in the rebooted series.
NBC earlier announced in February 2014 that the American sci-fi series is officially returning to the TV universe as a limited 13-episode miniseries. Showrunner Tim Kring will return to executive produce alongside James Middleton and Peter Elkoff.
The original series was once an iconic series in the history of TV as the first season received high praises from critics and fans. It also assembled the then-rising stars such as Zachary Quinto (of “Star Trek: Into Darkness” fame), Hayden Panettier, Adrian Pasdar, and Masi Oka. It eventually went downhill due to the WGA strike and got cancelled by NBC in 2010.
Some blamed the so-called “superhero fatigue” for its cancellation, but the fatigue is a myth because the comic-book inspired movies and TV series like “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “The Flash” are ruling the world with their cinematic universes. The hype surrounding the superhero-themed series comes as a perfect timing for Kring to re-introduce the Heroes universe via the reboot titled “Heroes: Reborn“.
Only a few original cast members will return to the rebooted series as Hayden Panettiere, Milo Ventimiglia, Zachary Quino, and Ali Larter have confirmed their absence. Jack Coleman and Jimmy Jean-Louis will reprise their respective roles as HRG/Noah Bennett and “The Haitian” while Masi Oka, who is best known for his role as Hiro Nakamura, will return for a guest-starring arc.
“Chuck” actor Zachary Levi will be a major player in the reboot and it was revealed that he will portray a character named Luke Collins. Kiki Sukezane will portray a character named Miko Otomo, but no details regarding her role were revealed.
The official synopsis is as follows:
The supernatural phenomenon begins again with a fresh crop of inspiring heroes who take on the ultimate struggle between those with extraordinary abilities and those with nefarious motives to hunt and harness their powers. Epic adventures await these newly empowered allies as they cross paths with some of the original characters (such as the beloved “HRG” and fan-favorite time-traveler Hiro Nakamura), unlocking the mysterious fate of the universe and their place within it.
“Heroes Reborn” also stars Ryan Guzman, Robbie Kay, Danika Yarosh, Judith Shekoni, Henry Zebrowski, Rya Kihlstedt, Eve Harlow and Gatlin Green. Francesca Eastwood (of “Jersey Boys” fame) and Pruitt Taylor Vince (of “True Blood” fame) joined the series for recurring roles.

The network did not announce the premiere date yet, but the first episode is directed by Matt Shakman, who is best known for his work on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. Titled “Awakening”, the series will make its debut on Thursday nights in the US.
