Existing within the Hermessence collection is a realm of mysteries nestled beneath the earth’s surface. Each of these– Vétiver Tonka, Iris Ukiyoé, Musc Pallida, and now Ginseng Biloba – offers a unique aesthetic repertoire exalting raw materials that conceal their fragrant treasure within their rhizomes, away from our noses and eyes. Their precious roots give rise to telluric fragrances with distinctive, sophisticated aromas.
For Christine Nagel, the Creative Director of Hermès Perfumes, to inhale the scent of ginseng is to be led along its meandering roots, with their deep, woody aroma and their promise of longevity, towards the most stimulating of olfactory mysteries. “The hand-crafted natural extract we have pioneered in collaboration with a French partner company pays tribute to the precious nature and gentle bitterness of ginseng,” she elucidates.

As she followed the labyrinthine undulations formed by ginseng roots, the perfumer was struck by another image: the graphic lines of golden ginkgo biloba leaves, characterised by their fan shape. This venerable tree, as old as time and known as the “maidenhair tree” because of the golden colour of its foliage in autumn, presents a form of botanical eccentricity: its female and male organs are found in different trees. It was the memory of the scent of the crumpled leaves of a male ginkgo that inspired Christine Nagel.

Ginseng Biloba eau de parfum is the woody, radiant issue of an unprecedented marriage in which ginseng roots and ginkgo leaves combine their mysteries, mirroring the graceful ripples of their botanical structures. The bright yellow bottle, in a refillable 100 ml size, echoes the golden leaves of the ginkgo biloba tree. The Swift calfskin cap with beige saddle-stitching reflects the colour of ginseng.
The Hermessence Ginseng Biloba Eau de Parfum will be available from 24 August 2026 at Hermès boutiques and exclusively at Hermès counters in Isetan KLCC and SEIBU.
