Here’s How To Make Your Instagram Feed Pop!

For better or worse, social media has changed the way many of us interact with each other. Every day, we follow, like, and share the content posted by our favourite Instagram accounts. At this point, scrolling through our Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter feeds has already become second nature for us. Hence, many businesses and entrepreneurs have become more active on social media, most prominently, Instagram. If you’re familiar with Instagram, you know that engaging content goes hand-in-hand with how your feed looks like.

As humans, our brains are wired to be drawn to symmetry and attractive interfaces. That’s why having an aesthetically-pleasing Instagram feed is key to leaving a deep impression on your audience. So, if you’re trying to take your IG feed to the next level, whether it’s for your business or personal use, keep reading!

Here are some tips on how to give your IG feed a glow-up:

Choose A Theme

Depending on what kind of audience you wanna reach, you have to choose a theme to focus on. Start thinking about your Instagram feed as a concept rather than individual posts. For example, if you’re a big fashion enthusiast, and you want to share primarily fashion content, but also other aspects of style, that’s what you should focus on posting. An easy way to start is to check out other users’ Instagram feeds and taking some inspiration from their posts.

Think About What You Want To Post

The most popular Instagram accounts stick to their theme and keep their content consistent. So, whenever you’re thinking about posting something, make sure to consider whether it’s something that goes with the theme of your account. For example, influencer @seungjuuuuuuu is a model, so his content is mainly about fashion, and lifestyle, with a muted colour scheme across his feed. On the other hand, Emma Chamberlain’s coffee brand’s IG account, @chamberlaincoffee, goes for a completely different aesthetic, featuring bright colours, and funky visuals.

Colour Coordination

If you aren’t already sticking to a colour palette on Instagram, this trick will definitely transform your feed. This will make all your photos and videos look like one curated collection, rather than a messy feed. Make sure you have a similar colour palette in all of your photos and videos. However, if you’re not big on filters, you can always just take all your shots in similar lighting conditions, with some minor tweaks on your photo. For example, if your branding involves a lot of muted tones and warm colours, you might wanna avoid posting anything with too many bright colours, so you can create a more cohesive looking page.

Visually Plan Your Instagram Feed

Before you start posting, it’s important to choose the right photos. While the filters, colours, lighting, and angles are important, the content is still the star of the show. So, to curate the perfect Instagram feed, make sure to choose the best photos and plan out your grid before posting. Apps like Preview, Inpreview, Plann, My Feed are all great apps to plan out your feed, as they provide a visual representation of what your feed may look like once you post them up.

Take Good Quality Photos

If you’re using your iPhone to take photos for your business, or your streetwear ootds, you should turn on the ‘Live’ setting for your camera app. This is sort of a hack that you can use when you don’t get the perfect shot you wanted, since you can easily edit the ‘key photo’ and find the perfect moment for your photo. Some other tips to keep in mind is to use the AE/AF lock feature to set your exposure before taking your picture, since you don’t want your pics to be overexposed. Turn on ‘Grid Lines’ while you’re at it, as you’ll know exactly how to angle your photos for the best composition.

Post Consistently

The most straightforward way to make your IG feed better is just to post more consistently. Yes, it may take sometime to curate and edit each post, but once you get the hang of it, you should be able to post several times a week. If you don’t want your audience to be overwhelmed with the content you’re posting, you can either opt for one post per day, or limit yourself to three posts a week. The most important thing is to be consistent, since you’re teaching your followers what to expect from you, as well as increase engagement with your followers.
