A List Of Heartwarming Malaysian Films To Enjoy This Hari Raya Season

This Hari Raya, streaming platforms like Netflix are inviting viewers to spend time with families and friends, while enjoying authentic and fascinating Malaysian stories on the small screen.

Over the next few weeks, you can feel-good with heartwarming comedy films “Kongsi Raya”, critically acclaimed black-and-white feature “Prebet Sapu”, which tells of life on the fringes of Kuala Lumpur, and “Showtime 1958” — a visually-stunning periodic film that takes audiences back to the golden age of Malaysian cinema.

“Kongsi Raya”

Premiere date: 27th April

Cast: Kin Wah Chew, Erra Fazira, Harith Iskander, Qasrina Karim, Wilson Lee, Ai Leng Ong

Plot: In a match made in culinary heaven, a chef and a food TV show producer fall in love. But then their feuding fathers challenge each other to a cook-off.

“Prebet Sapu” (Hail, Driver!)

Premiere date: 1st May

Cast: Amerul Affendi, Lim Mei Fen, Bront Palarae

Plot: Down on his luck, the driver of an illegal taxi service struggles to make a living as he forms an unexpected bond with a young escort.

“Showtime 1958”

Cast: Fatin Afeefa, Farah Ahmad, Henzi Andalas, Amai Kamarudin

Plot: In this film based on real events, director P. Ramlee organises a variety show to raise funds for fellow performers who lost their jobs before Eid.

These outstanding films will join a host of beloved made-in-Malaysia classics now streaming on Netflix, including iconic sitcoms “Senario” and “Best of Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu”, action-comedy blockbuster” Bulan dan Pria Terhebat”, real-life inspired romantic film “Pulang”, and not to forget one for the kids — “BoBoiBoy”.
