Things don’t always go smoothly when it comes to flying. But this man was caught off guard when he was given a handwritten boarding pass, something way out of the norm.

Reportedly, the man had been checking in for his flight when it didn’t work as planned. As such, he went to the counter for help. To his surprise, he was issued another boarding pass, a handwritten one. Supposedly, he received it because the flight’s tickets had been oversold.

The man reportedly shared his odd experience on Facebook, claiming his self-check in online had failed, hence his visit to the counter. To his surprise, his usual computer-generated boarding pass was replaced with a handwritten one. “It’s the first time I’ve got a boarding pass like this,” he commented. “It means the tickets (have been) oversold.”

“It turns out our tickets overlapped with someone else’s,” he explained. The man also claimed that the flight had been overbooked, so passengers who didn’t get a seat would be put on the next flight, which would also reduce wasted seats. “When I asked the crew, (they) said this was normal in the aviation world,” he added.

He added that they were told they could either choose to get a seat on their original flight, or take the next flight and receive a compensation of $50 (~RM235). He also claimed this method was used to obtain as many customers as possible before arranging them according to their requirements. “We have no power (here) and have to obey them,” he remarked.

Well, that’s certainly something new for most of us! Still, we hope the man’s flight went smoothly afterwards and that he reached his destination safely. In the meantime, if you ever receive a handwritten boarding pass, we guess you’ll know exactly what’s up.
