GrabFood Reveals The Launch Of First GrabKitchen In Malaysia

Grab Malaysia has announced just today that it will open its first cloud kitchen, located strategically in Hartamas. The GrabKitchen is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to provide support for developing businesses and independent brands to innovate and broaden their business more productively.

GrabKitchen was first introduced in Jakarta in 2018 and has increasingly expanded to 55 cloud kitchens throughout Southeast Asia. Sean Goh, Managing Director of Grab Malaysia commented that “Our regional experience with GrabKitchen makes us a suitable partner for F&B operators to expand their operations to address the growing evolution of the food industry and customers’ needs. Not only is the GrabKitchen concept a unique and cost-efficient model for F&B operators, but they will also have ready access to our merchant support tools, strong delivery network and wide customer base.”

In addition, Goh also stated that they have made observations on the ways the financial impact of the pandemic has affected restaurants and brands. Because of this, GrabKitchen is able to assist in helping the ecosystem of partners while still providing and serving the hunger of customers in the following manner:

1. Expansion of business with low capital costs

GrabKitchen is a lower risk choice to ensure restaurants and brands expand to newer areas without extensive financial investment. The location and the arranged list of high-quality brands for each GrabKitchen are cautiously picked based on the gaps in the market. Thus, brands have a bigger chance of better performance, without the marketing trouble of heading and promoting an outlet all on their own. F&B brands in GrabKitchens earned an average of 1.6x more sales compared to regular outlets across the region.

2. Variety and affordability

Regarding the insights and food preferences of customers, GrabKicthen provides a diversity of favourites, ranging from Malaysian cuisines to western delights like nasi lemak, char kuey teow, chapati, salads, burgers, and bubble tea. Customers are able to “mix and match” orders from more than 10 popular brands while purchasing just a single delivery fee in order to make it more convenient and affordable for sharing or easily enjoying a large variety of dishes.

3. More job and higher income opportunities

Now with more orders coming, this will translate to job and income opportunities for Grab’s delivery network.

By following health and safety requirements, all merchants and delivery partners are required to scan their MySejahtera app upon entry, get their temperature checked, always have their mask covered, and also pay attention to the necessary social distancing inside and the surroundings of GrabKitchen. In addition, GrabKitchen is cleaned and sanitised every day for the best levels of food safety.

Being the fastest-growing food delivery service in Malaysia, Grab wishes to broaden its network of GrabKitchens across Malaysia to gain more advantage and help more brands expand and grow their business.

In with the current MCO, GrabKitchen is only available from 10am to 10pm, with final orders to be placed latest by 9:20pm, although this is subject to changes to the MCO. Plus, customers can also choose the ‘self-pickup’ option, which means zero delivery fee.
