Grab Malaysia today announced the launch of GrabAssist, a dedicated service designed to support passengers who require extra mobility and accessibility assistance. It aims to empower Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, and users of personal mobility aids to travel independently and seamlessly.
The new service was launched by YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, during the opening of the ASEAN Disability Forum Conference 2025, coinciding with International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The ceremony was witnessed by representatives from the ASEAN Disability Forum, the UN Resident Coordinator’s office, and the Malaysia Federation of the Deaf (MFD).

GrabAssist offers mobility solutions for an underserved market that is seeking more accessible transport options, to and from their homes, as well as from care centres or hospitals. The service is launching in Klang Valley, in collaboration with NGOs such as MFD and Persatuan Pemandu e-Hailing OKU Fizikal Malaysia (PPEOFM).
The service will begin with nearly 100 driver-partners who are trained by certified care service providers. Their training equips them to handle mobility devices such as wheelchairs and walkers, and provide professional and empathetic support, equipped with GrabAssist kits, such as in-car communication flip cards, that enable them to assist and communicate with passengers more effectively.

Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations & Mobility at Grab Malaysia, said about the new launch, “At Grab, we are deeply committed to ensuring everyone can move about independently and conveniently. GrabAssist is a key part of this commitment. It’s designed to ensure passengers who need extra support can travel with confidence and comfort, aided by driver-partners who are trained to provide the right assistance.”
He added, “We are always listening to our community and adapting our platform based on your feedback. We understand that there is always more work to be done in making our services truly inclusive. This initial step with GrabAssist helps us address key challenges for underserved groups, and we look forward to expanding our partnerships to bring even greater mobility to the broader community.”
Passengers can now select the GrabAssist service through Advance Booking on the Grab app. This allows them to secure a suitable vehicle with a trained driver at their required timing.

“Mobility is more than just travelling, it is the gateway to independence, equality, and opportunity. Yet, for millions of PWDs across Southeast Asia, mobility remains one of the greatest challenges. GrabAssist is proof of what can be achieved when we prioritise accessibility, collaboration, and empowerment. These efforts are not just about transportation; they are about creating a society where everyone, regardless of ability, has equal opportunities to thrive,” said Tuan Mohd. Norhisham Aluwi, President of the Malaysia Federation of the Deaf.
Grab is committed to continuously refining and expanding GrabAssist service coverage with a larger fleet of trained drivers and additional features to better meet the community’s needs. This initiative is also part of Grab’s broader effort to foster inclusive economic opportunities, having empowered over 3,000 PWD driver- and delivery-partners in Malaysia since 2018, and more than 5,140 across Southeast Asia as of 2024.

In conjunction with the launch, Grab is offering a promotion of RM14 off on every GrabAssist ride, from 3 to 17 December 2025. To enjoy this discount, passengers must select the GrabAssist service type on the Grab app under Advance Booking. Once they have selected their preferred pick-up time, click on the “Offers” button to add the promo. This offer is only available to eligible passengers.
GrabAssist is currently only available in the Klang Valley, with future plans for expansion to other cities. For more information on GrabAssist, please visit www.grab.com/my/grabassist.
