Military enlistment is one of those news that many K-pop fans dread, as it means their favourite male idol will have to go on hiatus for the next two years. Recently, GOT7 (갓세븐) member Yugyeom (유겸) shared his enlistment plans and when he’ll begin his service.

On 23rd August 2025 (Saturday), AOMG released a statement about Yugyeom’s upcoming military enlistment. According to the music label, the GOT7 member has received the final confirmation of his acceptance as a specialised military recruit from the Military Manpower Administration. The agency confirmed that Yugyeom will enter training on 29th September 2025 (Monday) and will serve in the army band unit.

The army band unit, also known as the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) Military Band, is the state ceremonial unit of the ROKA. It specialises in Korean martial and traditional music and performs at state arrival ceremonies at the Blue House. With his acceptance into the army band unit, Yugyeom will join NCT’s Jaehyun (엔시티 재현) and ASTRO’s Cha Eunwoo (아스트로 차은우). Notably, the three are part of a friend group with other K-pop idols born in 1997.

Following the announcement, Yugyeom shared a handwritten letter on his social media to thank his fans for their love and support. In the letter, the idol wrote, “To our Ahgase, who has been with me for 12 years, I first wanted to tell you that I will enter the army carefully and in good health to serve our country well. I promise to come back safely without getting hurt, so please take care of yourselves, eat well, and stay healthy too.”

Yugyeom is the second-to-last Korean member of GOT7 to enlist in the military. His groupmates JB (제이비) and Jinyoung (진영) both enlisted in early 2023 and completed their military service in late 2024. Meanwhile, Youngjae (영재), who was born in 1996, is expected to enlist in the military by the end of 2025. While he hasn’t shared his enlistment plans, the singer will embark on a solo tour later this year.

AOMG won’t disclose the enlistment schedule nor the location of the entrance ceremony to ensure the safety of Yugyeom and the other soldiers. Nevertheless, fans have already begun sending their messages of support for their idol for his upcoming military enlistment. We would also like to wish Yugyeom a safe enlistment as he fulfils his duties to his country.
