TV producer and Hong Kong actor Gordon Lam Ka Tung (林家棟) has been the talk of the town since rumours claimed he was replacing TVB host Eric Tsang (曾志伟) as a TVB executive. Multiple sources have denied the talk, yet it seems nothing is better than hearing it from the horse’s mouth itself.
Hong Kong media recently got the opportunity to speak to Gordon Lam about the issue during the premiere for his latest film, “Dust To Dust (第八個嫌疑人)”. Needless to say, the 56-year-old star clarified matters immediately.
“Actually, there are many rumours circulating, and I myself have heard a lot about this untrue one. Some people have asked me if it was true, (and) kept ringing up my phone about it so I told them that it was a rumour,” he told the media.
But, someone asked Gordon if his alleged role in TVB had simply not been implemented yet. Gordon admitted someone had brought up the possibility of his return to TVB. “But, that was it. Apart from TV stations, I like working in this industry and cooperating with film companies, so I won’t rule out the possibility,” he stated. “What’s more important is whether I can perform well.”
Given his stance, others became curious if Gordon simply disliked the idea of returning to TVB. “I can’t say whether I hate (the idea) or not. Even if you ask me, I will ask myself, after all these years in the industry, what do I actually want to do and what do I (want) on my (résumé)?” he said, adding it was all about knowing one’s self.
It’s no surprise many are confused about Gordon Lam’s supposed return to TVB, especially since a few of his fellow artist have either voiced support or claimed that he was, such as DJ Ken Kwok (郭志仁). To this, all Gordon had to say was: “I think it takes time for people to confirm the information, but at first, it is useless to talk about it.”
As for his own feelings about returning to TVB in a managerial position, Gordon declined to comment. “I have my own colleagues in my own company, so I have some experience in this area. But if you ask me which (position) I would like to be in, I wouldn’t be able to answer, so I won’t say (anything),” he said.
Well, it certainly seems as though Gordon Lam has laid down the law, regarding his supposed return to TVB. Fans might be disappointed by the clarification, but Gordon seems perfectly content with his career at the moment, and perhaps, that’s enough.
