Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic began to hit the world, quite a number of employees have been advised to work from home.

The same case was established for companies like Google and Facebook. As reported by Variety, the companies are allowing their staffs to work from home before returning to office as early as 2021.

Starting in June, only 10 to 15% of Google staffers will be employed in the office while remaining workers will be required to stay at home. Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote in a statement released, on 8th May, saying that there will be “moments or occasions where you are able to come into the office.”

Additionally, Google has fixed 22nd May as an official day-off for its workers to rest and relax. “Take the time to do whatever you need to do to prioritise your well-being,” Pichai wrote in the memo.

As for Facebook’s case, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that 95% of the social media company’s full-time workers are now allowed to work from their respective homes. He added that the safety of his employees are important during this crucial time. This is also to minimise the risk of the Covid-19 spread by not having every worker under the same roof.

In an effort to ease the burden of workers following the Covid-19 outbreak, Facebook is also offering $1,000 (RM4,334) worth of bonus to their employees. Not only that, the social networking giant is also expected to add over 10,000 employees by the end of this year. In case you didn’t know, Facebook now has 48,000 permanent staffs.
