Badminton rising stars Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan have absolutely crushed it at the recent French Open 2022! The duo showed off their skills against the Indonesian team, with scores of 22-20, 19-21, and 21-7. Conquering their first game, the duo is set to move on to the next round.

Their constant amazing performance since way back in 2019 has attracted the attention of Malaysians and also badminton medallists, Greysia Polli and Jia Yifan. The Malaysian duo has come a long way as they won Malaysia’s seventh gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games earlier this year.

According to BWF World Tour, Jia Yifan – who won gold medals at the 2017, 2021, and 2022 World Championships, the 2018 Asian Games, and the 2019 Asian Championships – acknowledges the Malaysian pair as good opponents. “They are young and fast, and both are good at the net. They gave us a lot of problems“. Unfortunately, the Malaysian duo competed and lost against Jia Yifan and Chen Qing Chen just last week in the Denmark Open 2022.

The Malaysian rising stars were also acknowledged by Greysia Polli, who won gold medals in the women’s doubles at the 2014 Asian Games, at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, and at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The three met during a match at the Tokyo Olympics. They battled Indonesia’s Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu for 91 minutes before bowing out 20-22, 21-17, 18-21. A post-match interview shows Greysia Polli saying; “They are good players, (and a good) pair. We know they are rising stars from Malaysia.”
