A stunning mural of a turtle on a large rock at Tanjung Pelindung Beach has been turning heads recently. The mural, which stands 10 metres tall and stretches 20 metres long, was brought to life by four talented artists from Project ZeroSix— 34–year–old Amir Faruk, 33-year-old Kamal Idris, 35-year-old Azri Azahar, and 29-year-old Muhd Ikmal Manan. According to their Instagram post, it took them four days to complete the impressive artwork.

What the artists didn’t expect was the mural’s rapid rise to fame, drawing hundreds of visitors to the beach. As reported by Berita Harian, within just a month, the mural and a secondary piece featuring a baby sea turtle attracted a significant crowd.

This initiative was proposed by former Kuantan City Council mayor Datuk Hamdan Hussin, who noticed the rock’s perfect shape during his regular beach walks, as team leader Amir explained to the New Straits Times. Due to the beach’s accessibility constraints, the team couldn’t use a hydraulic sky lift, so they manually welded and screwed a platform to reach the rock’s higher sections. Amir noted that they left the turtle’s shell untouched to preserve the rock’s natural beauty, only painting the head and lower half.

He shared that sea turtles were once a common sight on this beach, especially during the ’80s and ’90s, and he hopes this project with Tourism Pahang will draw more visitors to this lesser-known gem. Amir also emphasised the importance of maintaining the beach’s cleanliness. “We hope visitors will keep the beach tidy and refrain from littering,” he said, urging everyone to respect the natural beauty of Tanjung Pelindung Beach while enjoying the vibrant new artwork.
