Late last month, netizens were saddened by the announcement that the Giant outlet in Kelana Jaya would be closing by the end of November. It was said that the popular shopping centre would be demolished to make way for a new Mixed Property Development by UEM Group Berhad (UEM Group).
After nearly 20 years of operation, the mall has finally closed down on Sunday (26th November). On the final day of operation, before the doors were permanently closed to the public, Giant Mall Kelana Jaya said goodbye to their last customer.

Over the weekend, a netizen who goes by Ahmad Jazmi, who is presumably a Giant staff member, posted a photo on the Kelaja Jaya Community Private Group on Facebook of the Giant Mall Kelana Jaya’s last customer. The photo showed the man holding up a receipt of his purchase next to a sign that reads, “Dear Valued Customers! We Are Closed! Thank you for your support!”.
As seen in the photo above, the hypermarket looked completely empty as everything had officially been cleared out. “This uncle is the last Giant Kelana Jaya’s customer. If he’s in this [Facebook] group, please tag him, I forgot to ask for his name when I took the photo,” Ahmad wrote in the captions. Unfortunately, we do not have access to the group so there is currently no information if the man in the photo has been identified.
Meanwhile, the story has been reposted on Twitter where many shared their fondest memories of shopping at the Kelana Jaya branch. Some netizens shared that they used to hang out at the food court after school while others recalled playing at the indoor playground when they were kids. One even shared that he used to play games on the PlayStation 2 at the game store for RM2 an hour. Former staff also shared getting their first jobs at the Kelana Jaya outlet.

As mentioned in our previous article, the Giant hypermarket staff members of the Kelana Jaya branch will be transferred to the nearest Giant branch. We’re sad to see another iconic hotspot leave but all good things must come to an end.
Are you a local in the area? What are your fondest memories of shopping at Giant Mall Kelana Jaya?
