A hypermarket in Section 13, Shah Alam has been ordered to close down for 8 days starting from 1st June 2020.

The reason for its suspension came about after authorities discovered that the premise had failed to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) required during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

“The 8 days given to the owner of the hypermarket is seen as reasonable for them to ensure the hypermarket’s operations adhere to the SOP set by the government,” Selangor Health Department (JKNS) director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman told Bernama.

“In the face of the Covid-19 outbreak, they should be more sensitive and concerned about their customers’ safety and wellbeing,” Dr Sha’ari continued. In order to curb the spread of Covid-19, business operators need to follow the necessary guidelines.

Among the SOP issued include practicing social distancing, limiting the amount of people in the premise at one go, and taking visitors’ body temperature. The notice (pictured above) stated the closure of Giant hypermarket is in accordance to Subsection 18(1) (f) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

When asked if the owner of Giant would be compounded, Dr Sha’ari answered that investigations are still being carried out. As of now, the hypermarket is scheduled to resume operations only on next Monday (8th June).

In similar news, Malay Mail reported that the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) had ordered 2 restaurants in Section 19 to close after its failure to follow the social distancing SOP.

Update (3rd June, 8pm):

Giant Malaysia has since release a statement, saying that the notice at the Shah Alam branch is not related to Covid-19.
