We’ve heard the term YOLO countless times, but 3 young girls have taken it to a whole new level.

Facebook user Giin Yong was astonished to find 3 girls wearing hijab sticking their upper body out of the vehicle while on the way up to Genting Highlands over the weekend. The video, which was uploaded on her Facebook page yesterday (Sunday, 28th August) has since gone viral.

In the video, Ginn and her companion can be heard expressing their shock and anger towards the passengers in the black vehicle in front of them. Ginn captioned her post, saying, “While on the way up to Genting Highlands yesterday late afternoon, we saw this group of young girls doing this … It’s beyond stupid and reckless. An accident waiting to happen … smh *tsk* *tsk*”

Her sentiments were echoed by many Malaysians online who also labelled their impulsive behaviour as “stupid”. Some even commented that they weren’t only putting their lives in harm’s way, but also jeopardising the lives of other road users. According To Ginn, the driver in the car was also driving recklessly up the winding road to Genting.

It’s hardly surprising to see the uproar from these netizens considering that Genting roads are prone accidents. Just last month (27th July), a tour bus skidded and overturned at KM17.2 Jalan Genting Highlands. The bus driver died on the spot, while 15 passengers were injured.

Road safety is a serious matter and no one should take it carelessly. It may seem fun at the moment to sit on the car window while laughing at the face of danger but what if an accident occurs? These girls were very lucky that nothing unfortunate happened to them.

Considering how irresponsible drivers on the road are these days, it wouldn’t hurt to arm yourself with some road safety tips. You never know, it might come in handy.

UPDATE (1st September, 8:40am):

The police are working on prosecuting the 3 girls who were caught on video. Bernama quoted Bentong Police deputy chief ASP S. Somo as saying that they would be charged with rash or negligent driving.

“The owner of the car had not used the vehicle on that day, but we have identified all those who were in the car on that occasion,” Somo said, adding that investigation papers will be sent to the public prosecutor this week.
