This Is How Genting Highlands’ Iconic Theme Park Used To Look Like

What will travel look like in the future? The pandemic has pretty much decimated the global travel industry but this pause has also made us consider how we can travel more consciously.

Instead of hopping from one holiday destination to another, perhaps we can begin by exploring the wonders of our own country. This thought recently came to mind when we saw a bunch of nostalgic photos of Genting Highlands before its revamp to Resorts World Genting.

Since our childhood days, Genting has always been a great destination to escape the city’s unbearable heat and humidity. It’s only an hour drive from Kuala Lumpur, and accessible by bus from KL Sentral, Gombak, as well as One Utama Shopping Mall.

Back in the day, the attraction site used to have an enormous outdoor theme park that would require an entire day in order to explore most of the rides. Upon entry, visitors would be greeted by the colourful giant swing at the entrance. Thrill-seekers would often opt for the swings at the outer corner as it swung higher than the inner swings.

Take a look at the original rides and atmosphere back in the 1990s:

While the outdoor rides were usually more scary and had an age/height requirement for certain attractions like roller coaster rides and free fall, the indoor attractions were more kid-friendly. Families with small children would go for the mini train, merry-go-round and safari rides.

Plus, fast food chains like McDonald’s, KFC, and Burger King were also easily accessible inside Genting. We also remember spending time at the arcade, trying our luck in winning a soft toy. The new arcade at SkyAvenue currently has more options and variety to entertain visitors though.

Siti Nurhaliza To Hold 30th Anniversary Concert This July; Ticketing & Seating Plan Announced

It was announced that Resorts World Genting’s upcoming outdoor theme park will be named Genting SkyWorlds. In the meantime, we would recommend exploring the Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park to explore The VOID and SkyVR.
