The 15th General Election (GE15) is coming up. In recent weeks, a number of political parties and coalitions have officially announced their candidates for their respective parliamentary seats.
Interestingly, the upcoming election has also managed to make history with its colourful lineup of candidates. This year’s GE15 features several celebrities who will be contesting parliamentary seats, alongside politicians. Among the famous names are entertainers Datuk Seri Eizlan Yusof and Dr. Ahmad Idham.
Yesterday (Wednesday, 2nd November), the two artistes were announced as candidates representing Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) under Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang), who will be contesting in the GE15. Seasoned actor Eizlan Yusof will be contesting the Sabak Bernam parliamentary seat; while fellow-actor Ahmad Idham will vie for the Port Dickson parliamentary seat.
Speaking in an interview with the press, Eizlan revealed that he initially did not think that he would be chosen to contest the seat, even though he was previously appointed as Pejuang communications head for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. “This is a heavy responsibility that I have to take for the sake of the people and the country,” the “Astana Idaman” star said.
Apart from the two aforementioned actors, local celeb-cum-activist Lando Zawawi was also named as one of the candidates representing GTA. Lando (real name Azlan Sani Zawawi) will be contesting the Tanjung Karang parliamentary seat.
Meanwhile, famed producer and director, Datuk Jurey Latiff Rosli, will vie for the Lenggong parliamentary seat, representing Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR). In Bintong, Perlis, actor-director Khir Mohd Noor will contend for a seat in the state legislative assembly (DUN). He was named as one of the candidates representing the Heritage Party.
We wish these celebrity candidates luck as they strive for the privilege of serving the country. Polling day for GE15 is scheduled for 19th November.
