On 23rd October, celebrity couple Wang Feng (汪峰) and Zhang Ziyi (章子怡) officially confirmed their divorce. While the news shocked many, model Ge Huijie (葛荟婕), Wang Feng’s ex-wife had allegedly already foreseen the outcome.
No one knows a man more intimately than his partner, or in this case, his ex-partner. And Ge Huijie has been airing Wang Feng’s dirty laundry for a very long time. As such, in light of the couple’s recent announcement, Chinese media reportedly approached her to give her thoughts on the matter.
When asked about the divorce, Huijie allegedly told Sina Entertainment (新浪娱乐): “I personally feel that Wang Feng and I have been separated for so long and that (our) child (Apple) is so old, it (shouldn’t) affect her. The relationship between the two of them doesn’t hurt me.” She later added that she suspected her daughter might have already known about the divorce for a long time, but, her daughter might still need time to digest it.
While she gave a seemingly neutral response to the media, Huijie was apparently unable to hide her glee in front of her live audience when she streamed yesterday (23rd October). Netizens observed that she was very vindicated by the news, even grinning widely as she laughed and reportedly claimed she had been “avenged“.
Several netizens noted that Huijie has long since spoken about her feud with Wang Feng which allegedly started after he left her at 19, two years after they started dating. Reportedly, he had also taken no interest in their daughter, whom was born out of wedlock in 2005, until 2011, when he helped Apple register for residence and did a paternity test to confirm he had fathered her.
Ge Huijie’s reaction to the overall situation has left netizens divided. While some understand her gloating, others have criticised her for taking joy in the demise of the couple’s relationship. However, notably enough, Huijie had previously claimed she harboured no ill will towards Zhang Ziyi, even stating that she pitied her.
Well, hell has no fury like a woman scorned and it seems Ge Huijie believes Wang Feng has gotten his just desserts. While we can’t fault her for feeling that way, we do hope all the adults involved will continue prioritising the kids and their feelings on the matter too.
