A very popular and overused phrase is “don’t judge a book by its cover”. No one is one-dimensional and there are always many sides to a person. Unfortunately, someone certainly jumped the gun when it came to local internet celeb Gatita Yan (Tong Lee Yan)’s character.
Gatita has always been famous for her revealing photos showcasing her body. However, while most tend to fawn over her pics, it seems this time someone had a problem with it. As a result, Gatita was banned from attending a certain workshop. The influencer-YouTuber was very upset and took to her socials to air her grievances.
Yesterday (10th April), it was clear that Gatita was not having a pleasant weekend. It had started out well enough. Gatita shared that she was in the midst of attending a four-day workshop for her company. On the third day, the event organisers had apparently decided to host a fancy dinner. Gatita stated they were asked to wear their “most dazzling clothes” to said dinner. The fashionable influencer chose a white high-cut skirt for her evening outfit.
As it is with these kinds of do-s, people took plenty of photos. However, some photos of Gatita were supposedly a little too revealing. These photos were then shared online and the organisers saw them. “It may be because of my (profession), (but) the organisers made a direct conclusion without (discussion) and I was banned from the workshop without explanation,” Gatita claimed in her Instagram Story. The influencer added that she hadn’t been the one to take the photo or upload it.
Although Gatita has faced several naysayers before, this encounter left her very upset. She stated that she felt disrespected by the organisers. Gatita pointed out that regardless of her usual lifestyle, she is not an exhibitionist. Netizens were in two minds about the situation. Some felt Gatita was to blame, while others were upset with how the organisers had treated her.
After the issue went viral, the organisers reached out to Gatita to apologise. They stated they had made an error in judgement. “We didn’t respect the rights and interest of Ms Gatita Yan and caused (her) psychological grievances, and (we) are deeply sorry,” they wrote. “Ms Yan did not (cause any damage) or behaved in an indecent manner.” The organisers added that they would refund her in light of the issue.
It was definitely good news for Gatita! However, it seems she had other news to share too. Some netizens had been curious as to where her unofficial boyfriend Lim Shang Jin (林尚进) was. Gatita then stated that they were no longer together.
“We are no longer ambiguous, we are no longer flirting, and we no longer have a relationship (beyond) being friends,” she said. Gatita also thanked Shang Jin for appearing in her life and praised him for being a good partner. Shang Jin in turn said he had no regrets meeting Gatita.
Well, thankfully the issue ended well for Gatita. Not only was the matter with the organization resolved peacefully, her relationship with Shang Jin clearly ended amiably as well.
Gatita has previously mentioned breaking up with Shang Jin. However, we doubt anyone expected her to do it after sharing this difficult situation!
