Earlier this week, tragedy struck Hong Kong when a major fire broke out at the Wang Fuk Court housing complex, with a death toll now rising to 94 people and leaving hundreds still missing. The terrifying ordeal has left many survivors seeking refuge after their homes were reduced to ashes.
Global stars, including those attending or scheduled to attend the upcoming 2025 MAMA Awards, have reacted to the tragedy and paid tribute to the victims. Here are their messages:
Michelle Yeoh
Malaysia’s Tan Sri Dato’ Michelle Yeoh was originally scheduled to appear as a presenter at the prestigious music awards, but it has now been confirmed that her appearance has been cancelled due to the fire. Following news of the tragedy, the Academy Award winner took to Instagram to express how heartbroken she was over what had happened. “Praying for the families who are grieving, those who are injured, and everyone affected by this tragedy. Sending prayers to the families for strength, healing and comfort during this unimaginably hard time,” she wrote.
Jackson Wang

Born and raised in Hong Kong, it’s no surprise that this news hits home for GOT7 member Jackson Wang. The idol and his team took to Instagram Stories to express their condolences to all individuals and families affected by the recent fire in the city. “This tragic event has brought significant loss and hardship to the community, and our thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the firefighters, rescue personnel, medical teams, and all frontline workers who have been responding with dedication under extremely challenging conditions,” the statement read.
According to several Jackson Wang fan clubs, the singer and his clothing brand have donated HK$1 million (approximately RM530,712.60) to the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals’ Emergency Assistance Fund. The contribution will help provide urgent support to those affected by the recent deadly fire.
Lay Zhang
EXO member Lay Zhang also took to Instagram to share the devastating news of the Hong Kong fire. In his post, he provided information on where victims could seek shelter and assistance, and encouraged others to donate to support those affected by the tragedy.

In a statement released by Big Hit Music, CORTIS and their agency expressed their deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in the fire. “Following in-depth discussions with the [MAMA Awards] organisers, as it is taking place amid such a heavy situation, we will approach it without forgetting our sense of mourning. Once again, we pray for the eternal peace of those who have passed away, and we hope that the damage in the affected area will be swiftly addressed and repaired,” the statement reads.
Martin also took to his own social media to express his and his members’ grief over the tragedy. “We were shocked and heartbroken to hear that the fire had caused numerous casualties and left many people missing. We sincerely pray that those affected will recover from this,” he said.
