For over a decade, e-hailing services have been thriving in Malaysia. Grab consistently ranks as the top option for customers due to its dominance of the transportation platform, but that may change soon. With new services entering the market and providing greater options and lower pricing, Grab may be forced to lose market share.
Several distinct e-hailing applications have appeared on the market in the last month, each providing customers with a unique experience. From communal rides to fixed prices, here are the 3 newest app-based ride services:
1. Bolt

The Estonian-based ride service, Bolt, has finally landed in Malaysia! Providing cheap rides across almost 50 countries, this e-hailer is known for its competitive prices and great services. Similar to Grab, this app has a wide range of vehicles to choose from; from your basic sedans all the way to premium MPVs, there’s surely something for everyone. Netizens have already compared the prices between Bolt and other e-hailing apps, and there’s a prominent difference where the latter is much pricier.
2. Lalamove Ride

The Hong Kong-based delivery service now offers rides for people as well! Lalamove has been operating in Malaysia since 2018, mainly for transporting parcels or other items within the same day. With this new addition to the application, they can expect more activity from users, especially since their prices start at only RM6 per ride, excluding all extra fees. Although they only have sedans for now, the price is still amazing for being in a busy city!
3. Kumrides

Perhaps the most unique one of the 3, Kumrides is one of the services offered by Kummute, a newly launched e-hailing app. As a Malaysian-based company, they strive to make commuting easier for locals. Hence, they created a different way to transport multiple people to the same area at once. Introducing Kumrides and Kumpool, both services use vehicles that can move up to 5 people per trip, and the only difference between the two are the routes and prices. However, this service is still the cheapest of them all, with prices starting from RM1.
Although these new e-hailing ride services are just starting in the Klang Valley, they are slowly expanding their reach. Soon enough, they will be available to everyone across Malaysia! Have you tried out one or all of them?
