These stars weren’t just entertainers; they were cultural icons who left a lasting impact on the world, both on and off the screen.

1. Peggy Moffit

Peggy Moffitt, the iconic ’60s model and Paramount contract player who appeared in Michelangelo Antonioni’s “Blow-Up”, passed away at her Beverly Hills home at 84 years old due to dementia. The model’s influential persona, characterised by her pale skin, distinctive harlequin eye makeup, five-point Vidal Sassoon haircut, and humour, was a deliberate creation that she maintained throughout her career.

2. Gena Rowland

Gena Rowlands, one of Hollywood’s last living legends, has died at 94 years old. Over her five-decade career, the actress starred in over 40 films and numerous TV shows, with her most notable role being in “A Woman Under the Influence”(1974), which earned her a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination.

She worked in 10 films with her husband, Cassavetes, from their marriage in 1954 until his death in 1989. Gena Rowlands also won two Golden Globes and four Emmys and received an honorary Oscar in 2015, where she expressed gratitude for her rich and fulfilling career.

3. Kevin Sullivan

Kevin Sullivan, the professional wrestler known as “The Taskmaster” and the “Prince of Darkness,” has died at 74 years old, as announced by World Wrestling Entertainment on August 9th. Kevin wrestled for various federations, including WWE (then the World Wide Wrestling Federation) in the 1970s and the National Wrestling Alliance in the 1970s and early ’80s.

He created his notorious dark persona with Championship Wrestling from Florida in the ’80s. Most famous for his time with World Championship Wrestling in the 1990s, the wrestler was known for his villainous role and feuds with popular wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, Dusty Rhodes, and the Road Warriors. He retired from wrestling in 1997 but continued as a WCW booker until 2001.

4. Rachel Lillis

Rachael Lillis, who voiced Misty and Jessie in the English versions of the 1990s Pokémon anime series and films, passed away at 46 years old after a battle with breast cancer on August 10th. The voice actor also voiced the Pokémon Jigglypuff, known for its sleep-inducing song. Beyond Pokémon, she contributed her talents to roles in “Your Lie in April”, Hunter x Hunter”, and “Winx Club”, among others.

5. Connie Chiume

Connie Chiume, known for her role as a tribal leader in “Black Panther” and its 2022 sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, passed away at 72 years old. Chiume joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2018 and also appeared in the musical film “Black Is King” and the drama series “Gomora”.

6. Jay Jay

Jay Jay, born Fauzi Darus, has passed away at a private medical centre in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya. He had undergone heart bypass surgery at the National Heart Institute on May 23rd, following a mild heart attack and shortness of breath.

Jay Jay, who began his singing career with Carefree in 1979 before going solo in 1984, was celebrated with several awards, including Most Popular Male Singer at the Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian in 1988, Best Male Vocal at the Anugerah Industri Muzik in 1998, and Best Pop Rock Song at the Juara Lagu 1998 for “Joget Angan Tak Sudah”.

7.  Wallace Amos, JR.

Wallace “Wally” Amos, Jr., the beloved founder of “Famous Amos” cookies, passed away peacefully at 88-years-old, with his wife Carol by his side, following a battle with dementia. Born in Tallahassee, Florida, Wally transformed a family recipe into a nationwide sensation, starting with a single bakery in Hollywood, California, in 1975.

In 1977, he moved to Hawaii, where he became the proprietor of Chip & Cookie, a cookie shop, and co-founded Uncle Wally’s Muffin Co., whose products are widely available in stores across the country. Beyond his entrepreneurial success, Wallace was a passionate advocate for literacy. He authored eight books, served as a spokesperson for Literacy Volunteers of America for 24 years, and delivered motivational speeches to various groups. His dedication to promoting reading earned him the National Literacy Award, presented by President George H.W. Bush in 1991.

The legacies of these stars will endure, cherished by their fans, friends, and families. While we mourn the loss of such remarkable individuals, we deeply appreciate the profound impact they made and the lasting impressions they leave behind.
