For most people, September is just any other month of the year but for many, especially horror enthusiasts, it is 1-month away from Halloween! Thankfully, there are tons of interesting teeth-clenching horror movies that will have you at the edge of your seats before October comes along.

Whether it’s gore, psychological, supernatural or based on real-life events, there’s certainly something from our list that will pique your interest. Here is the list of new and upcoming horror movies for you to watch!

1. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” (6th September 2024)

YouTube video

While this may not be classified as traditional horror, it’s not a movie to be missed. The famous demon Beetlejuice has returned to haunt our screens, with the sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” taking place 36 years after the 1988 movie, directed by the genius Tim Burton. Winona Ryder reprised her iconic role as Lydia Deetz for this highly-anticipated continuation.

Jenna Ortega, starring as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic, and the portal to the afterlife is accidentally opened. If you’ve watched the first movie, then you definitely would want to watch what happens in the sequel. Or if you’re not too familiar with the story but you’re into “Ghostbusters” and “The Addams Family” then “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is perfect for you.

2. “The Front Room” (6th September 2024)

YouTube video

“The Front Room” centres on a newly pregnant Belinda’s life becoming messy after her mother-in-law, Kathryn Hunter, moves in. As the diabolical guest tries to get her claws on her child, Belinda tries to save her family from Kathryn’s eerie antics and clear her name from being accused of evil in front of her husband. Its blood-curling moments will make you question the mysterious background of the so-called mother-in-law.

3. “Red Rooms” (6th September 2024)

YouTube video

“Red Rooms” tells the story of Kelly-Anne, a model who becomes obsessed with a high-profile murder trial. The killer, Ludovic Chevalier, horrifyingly kidnapped, tortured, and sexually abused three underage girls, while each victim was younger than the last. As we get to know the main character’s personality, we also get to understand Kelly-Anne’s mind, as she believed that the judgement made by the law was broken and they had convicted the wrong man.

4. “Don’t Turn Out The Lights” (6th September 2024)

YouTube video

Based on a true story, “Don’t Turn Out The Lights” directed by Andy Fickman, is a horror movie that centres on a group of friends who went on a road trip to attend a music festival in 2017. A happy trip becomes horror when they accidentally get into the demon’s domain. One by one, everyone went missing, and their bodies were never found to this day.

5. “Creeping Death” (10th September 2024)

YouTube video

Writer-director Matt Sampere makes his feature debut with “Creeping Death,” as he was always interested in slasher films and Halloween. The story begins on Halloween, the main character Tim’s favourite holiday. However, this time, his mother is diagnosed with cancer. Now, all he wants is a quiet night in.

His plans are quickly disrupted when his friends pay him an unwanted visit after stealing a mysterious sack from the doorstep of a local craze. This sacrilegious act unleashes the Aos Si, a Celtic spirit that walks the earth on Halloween. This chilling experience would be great to introduce the background of Halloween for Malaysians.

6. “Believer” (13th September 2024)

YouTube video

For fans who are interested in movies that involve cults, “Believer” is one of the magnificent cult movies that tells the journey of a struggling writer, Kate Harris facing the horror of a notorious cult leader and mass murderer. From being brutally attacked and targeted by a cult leader to being the one who attacks others. This teeth-clenching movie will show you the experience and consequences of being in a cult.

7. “Booger” (13th September 2024)

YouTube video

“Booger” will give you an upset stomach as we follow Anna after the loss of her best friend, Izzy, and undergoes a strange transformation after being bitten by Booger, a stray cat, which she and Izzy took in. The movie perfectly combines the elements of horror, comedy, fantasy, and gore with the use of an indie background, enhancing the late 19th and 20th century vibes.

8. “Here After” (13th September 2024)

YouTube video

The movie “Here After,” directed by Robert Salerno, tells the story of a mother after her daughter was miraculously revived in a fatal accident. As the story progresses, we can see the relief turns to dread after Claire notices changes in her daughter, suspecting something dark has followed her family.

9. “Never Let Go” (20th September 2024)

YouTube video

The movie “Never Let Go” captures the experience of living in the middle of the forest, far away from city life, and trying to survive the horror of an unidentified entity that wants to take the lives of a family of three. The movie’s exploration of hair-rising supernatural experiences is perfect for fans who have watched “Insidious.”

10. “Bagman” (27th September 2024)

YouTube video

Last but certainly not least. To face your deepest inner fear as a child is a problem for most adults and this movie perfectly displayed that sort of struggle. The “Bagman” offers a compelling look as it provides the feeling of becoming the prey of a malevolent, mythical creature.

So which horror movie are you interested in?
