From ALPHA To BGYO: 8 Southeast Asian Boy Bands You Need To Start Stanning

K-pop may still dominate global playlists, but Southeast Asia’s music scene has been steadily carving out its own space. From viral TikTok hits to survival-show success stories, the region is producing polished boy bands with strong identities, dedicated fanbases and serious international potential.

It’s about time we start showing more love to our local acts and SEAblings, because there’s plenty of talent worth discovering. If you’re ready to expand your playlist, here are some Southeast Asian boy groups to have on your radar.

1. ALPHA

Formed through Astro’s “Big Stage Alpha” competition in 2025, this Malaysian boy group quickly captured attention for their strong vocal line and polished performances. Each of the seven members brings a distinct strength, creating a balanced and dynamic group presence. Their emotional track “P Ramlee Saloma” awakens all the feels, with the group’s powerful vocal delivery. With undeniable stage chemistry, they’re proof that Malaysia’s boy band scene is only getting stronger.

2. SB19

You’ve probably heard their hit “Gento” while scrolling on TikTok, it’s one of those tracks that instantly sticks. The five-member group, composed of Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken and Justin, revolutionised the Filipino music scene by pioneering the P-pop genre and setting a new standard for idol training and performance. Beyond catchy hooks, SB19 are known for their artistic involvement, often participating in songwriting, choreography and creative direction.

3. BUS

BUS (บัส) is a Thai boy band and the first act to debut under Sonray Music, a label within Tada Entertainment. The 12 members were selected through the competitive reality show “789 Survival”, which helped them build a loyal following even before debut. With both talent and visuals on their side, they have all the ingredients to become your next bias group.

4. BGYO

Formed in 2018 through ABS-CBN’s “Star Hunt Academy”, BGYO quickly established themselves as one of the Philippines’ standout idol groups. The five members, Akira, Gelo, JL, Mikki and Nate, are known for their sleek visuals and confident stage presence. Their recent release “Fresh” leans into a hip-hop sound while delivering a message about self-confidence and authenticity. 

5. UN1TY

Debuting in 2019 under Kapital Entertainment, UN1TY quickly rose within Indonesia’s growing idol scene. Their music often combines upbeat pop with relatable themes about youth, relationships and everyday experiences. They also made history in 2020 as the first Indonesian group to break into MTV US, marking a major milestone for regional representation. 

6. Insomniacks

This Kuala Lumpur-based trio has become a familiar name in Malaysia’s pop landscape thanks to their easy-listening sound and heartfelt lyrics. Members Iqie, Iskandar and Danial have built a loyal following through steady releases and memorable live performances. You might recognise them from “Papa Zola The Movie”, where their OST track “Demi Kebenaran” gained widespread attention. 

7. PROXIE

Formed through the survival show “The Brothers: School of Gentlemen”, PROXIE (พรอกซ) is a six-member Thai group known for their energetic performances and polished visuals. Their music blends modern pop with nostalgic influences, giving them a distinctive charm. If you’re looking for something nostalgic yet catchy, their track “Bad Shawty” is a great place to start. It’s vibrant, addictive and perfect for getting into their sound.

8. UPRIZE

UPRIZE is an upcoming Vietnamese boy group formed from finalists of “Show It All Vietnam” (Tân Binh Toàn Năng). Even before debut, the seven members have already gained attention for their visuals, training and strong performance potential. Let’s stay tuned for their debut!
