People have missed their flights for various reasons such as carelessly shopping online or getting their passports wet just a day before boarding. It’s not often we hear stories of passengers missing their flight because they had to give birth and this woman definitely did not have time to board the plane or even go to a hospital as her water broke in the waiting area.
On Thursday (28th December), Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad posted a photo on their social media platforms of an officer holding a newborn baby. It was said that a passenger was in labour at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1’s waiting area and the Aviation Security (AVSEC) team rushed to help the woman.
As seen in the photo above, the delivery appeared to have gone smoothly. The aviation company also called medical officers from the Ministry of Health (KKM) and Medilife Paramedic for further assistance. Not long after the delivery, the mother and the child were then sent to Serdang Hospital for more immediate treatment and monitoring.
Netizens congratulated the mother on her newborn baby while a few wondered how she was even allowed to travel if she was already close to her due date. Some even suggested that the baby should be named after KLIA and that the family should receive some sort of complimentary pass or tickets since the child was born at the airport.
We personally agree that KLIA should offer the family a free lifetime travel pass or at least discounts for their next destination but regardless, kudos to AVSEC, Terminal Services Department, KKM, and Medilife Paramedic for the quick and efficient action! We wish the mother a speedy recovery and may the child grow up to be healthy and happy!
