Always entertaining us with their incredible music and charisma, pop stars are often loved by many. News of their deaths will always be a shock to fans worldwide.
On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day itself, two legendary stars passed away. Drummer Fred White, a member of the band Earth, Wind & Fire, has died at age 67 whereas, Anita Pointer, eldest of the Pointer Sisters died of cancer at age 74.
On the first day of 2023, drummer Fred White of the band Earth, Wind & Fire, passed away. His brother, Verdine White, also a former group member announced on Instagram with the caption, “Our family is saddened today with the loss of an amazing and talented family member, our beloved brother Frederick Eugene “Freddie” White.”
In the caption, Verdine shared to the public that Fred White was a child protege that acquired gold records at only 16 years old. But more than that, Fred was a wonderful brother that was always “entertaining and always mischievous“. The band’s official Instagram page also posted a video of Fred performing a drum solo at a 1979 concert in Germany. “Rest in love.” the group wrote.
On the last day of 2022 (31st December), Anita Pointer, one of the members of the Grammy-winning Pointer Sisters died of cancer at age 74, her publicist Roger Neal said in a statement. Anita was surrounded by family at her Beverly Hills home when she died.
“While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter Jada and her sisters June & Bonnie and at peace. She was the one that kept all of us close and together for so long. Her love of our family will live on in each of us,” the family said in a statement.
Many fellow musicians, celebrities and fans worldwide all expressed their condolences through Instagram comments. Fellow singer Lenny Kravitz has taken the time to wrote on Verdine’s Instagram post saying, “I was blessed to have been in his presence and blessed to have been influenced by him. A true king. Rest in power.”
Anita’s fans have taken the time to comment on her official Instagram page showing love and wishing her to rest in peace. One fan comment said “Beautiful Anita, oh how your music has been passed down from my mother to me. So many great memories. May you rest in power.”
