It’s not uncommon to come across age-gap couples in Malaysia these days, especially within the entertainment or business circles. Recently, former Four Golden Princess (四千金) member, Samantha Ee Kai Chee (凯儿), celebrated her fifth wedding anniversary with her husband, Datuk Tai Huat Chang (戴华昌). She even invited friends and family to the happy celebration.
According to Astro television host Darren Ch’ng (庄文杰), Datuk Tai had been single for over three decades before meeting Samantha. He even travelled to Japan, where she was studying, to declare his love and waited for her every day as she went to school. Darren’s Facebook post, featuring his interview with the couple, was heartwarming – to say the least.
Initially, the 34-year-old former star regarded him as just a friend, but Datuk Tai persisted in wooing her, despite admitting to being “thick-skinned.” Samantha disclosed his consistent efforts, including regular contact with her brother, showcasing his genuine dedication. Through his perseverance, he won the singer over, and they began their romantic relationship. Despite struggling to list five qualities about each other, they found solace in “tolerance.” Since their marriage in 2019, the couple has welcomed three children into their lives.
Netizens flooded the TV host’s Facebook post with blessings. One netizen commented, “True love, such genuine gestures and actions would touch any girl.” Meanwhile, some left humorous remarks, “Even in their seventies or eighties, they can still be sweet and display their affection.” However, there were also comments suggesting that “Samantha and Darren look like a young couple taking pictures with their in-laws.”
Observing a couple with a significant age gap might raise eyebrows for some, yet love often defies expectations.
