Football matches can get pretty crazy and enthusiastic sports fans have been known to cause a riot every now and then whenever their team loses. Previously, during the 2023 Malaysia FA Cup final, someone in the audience was assaulted by a military member after he was caught provoking the fans from the opposing team.

If you think that incident was crazy enough, football fans from Penang and Kedah were caught causing quite the scene after the intense Super League match last night. Watch:

The Super League match between Penang FC and Kedah Darul Aman FC took place last night (Tuesday, 22nd August) at City Stadium in Penang. The latter won 2-1 against the former in the match and while the game itself has its unforgettable moments, it wasn’t the craziest thing to have happened yesterday.

Videos and photos that circulated on social media showed fans from both teams fighting each other outside the stadium. As seen in the video above, countless fans were throwing punches at each other at a Shell petrol station nearby and according to several reports, the incident was caused by provocation between both parties after the final results of the match were announced.

Police were immediately called to the scene to stop the brawl from further escalating. George Town Officer in Charge of Police District Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong said in a statement that seven suspects who were involved in the altercation have been arrested. “Police also confiscated two rocks, two traffic cones, and a stick believed to have been used by the suspects during the incident,” he added.

Soffian also confirmed that some of the suspects sustained injuries to the head after rocks were thrown at them. Even the bus carrying the Kedah FC fans was damaged by the chaos. Investigations are still ongoing and the case has been filed under Section 148 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for rioting and vandalism.

At the time of writing, there have been no updates from local authorities regarding the case. Meanwhile, netizens sure had a kick out of it. The incident amused many while some brought up other social issues and how they were perceived in comparison to sports fans causing a riot.
