Food Review: Pavilion KL’s D’Empire Strikes Big With Luxe Atmosphere, Luscious Dishes

The renowned Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is home to not just the best retail stores, but top-notch international cuisines as well. For many of us, dining regularly at the shopping mall’s many restaurants is not an option, as the premium food, ambience and services come at steep prices. Or at least, that’s what we thought. During a recent visit, we stumbled upon a super-fancy-looking restaurant called D’Empire – and we automatically assumed a meal there would cost a king’s ransom. But guess what? We were wrong!

D’Empire, Art of Cuisine opened its doors in September 2017. It’s a big, roomy restaurant with elegant decor and appointments. If you want to keep things private with your small party of diners, you can opt for D’Empire’s private event area which can accommodate ten people. The staff are quite friendly and considerate of your needs, which adds to the restaurant’s cosy atmosphere.

We love how comfortable and inviting this place is. With its perfect lighting and soothing atmosphere, patrons quickly forget they’re in a busy mall. Additionally, you get to dine quietly and away from the bustle of people moving about the mall thanks to its location on the sixth floor.

D’Empire is well known for offering superb meat dishes. But there are a number of other must-try dishes here. Here are some of what we tried out:

Bruschetta Tomatoes

For starters, we had the Bruschetta Tomatoes, which comprised five slices of toasted bread, each nicely topped with fresh tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, basil, garlic, and onion. The flavours that emerged were, well, marvelously mouthwatering!

Bolognese Spaghetti

Our entrée was pasta prepared to perfection with homemade tomato sauce! The pasta was soft and chewy, and the sauce had a great, meaty texture. You can select between beef and chicken, but we recommend choosing beef because it gives the spaghetti an extra kick.

Pepperoni Pizza

The pizzas are definitely worth trying if you’re a major pizza aficionado. This pizza’s thin crust is so irresistible, and it’s topped with plenty of beef pepperoni and cheese. D’Empire’s is outstanding because of the handmade dough and flavorful, juicy pepperoni. Each slice was super light and crispy, and we bet you’d order a second serving because that’s what we did!

Lasagna

Who doesn’t love a good lasagna, especially one that is baked with lots of cheese and generous filling?

For a comforting meal, nothing beats this whole-meat pasta dish with its rich, creamy flavour. Because meat and sauces are stacked repeatedly to make a thick lasagna, it has a savoury flavour in every bite. The lasagna here is super good and they served the right portion so you don’t feel overstuffed while eating it.

Although it’s a pork-free and halal restaurant, D’Empire offers a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. We got to try three different drinks and were pretty amazed by them.

We first sipped the Blue Lagoon – a blue drink made of Vodka, Gin Triple Sec, Blue Curacao, Pineapple Juice, and 7-up. It’s a refreshing, sparkly drink, but with a hint of alcohol that provides a slightly strong finish. We just loved the presentation and how pretty the beverage looked.

If you want zero alcohol beverages, you can try some of their mojitos that are absolutely alcohol-free. Since we had lots of meaty meals, it definitely called for a refreshing beverage. So, we ordered the Virgin Mojito. Lemon and mint are one of the combos we loved – simply because it’s super refreshing and goes well with any kind of food. We loved how they added lots of mint leaves, but still maintained the flavour, making sure it was not too sour or bitter.

Last but not least, The Fruit Punch, which is their all-time favourite mocktail that combines orange, pineapple, mango, apple, and a tiny bit of grenadine syrup. It’s a delectable way to quench your thirst – not too sweet and complements any meal you may order.
