Food Review: MoMo’s KL’s Ramadan Menu Is Much Mo’ Than We Expected!

If you ask anyone who has ever lived in Malaysia what they love about the country, they’ll likely say that one of their favourite things is the food. What’s not to enjoy about it, really? There are many different cuisines, delicious flavours, infinite dining options, and they’re constantly available (even past midnight).

One comfort food Malaysians love is definitely burgers. But why settle for stall burgers when you can get somethings better? We’re talking American-styled, juicy burgers with refreshing milkshakes at a cool hangout spot right in the city.

MoMo’s is a chic and minimalist hotel created by Ian Schranger with imaginative microrooms and oddball playground. It’s is a hidden gem in the city in the centre of Chow Kit which offers cozy rooms where you can stay during the day, and enjoy a night out you won’t soon forget.

As for the playground – it’s not the conventional children’s playground, but a place for creativity and spontaneity. It’s meant to be a space for lovely celebrations of life, special occasions, and memorable happenings. At times, it’s the venue of talk shows, exhibitions and parties. Night is undoubtedly the ideal time to visit MoMos’ because the neighbourhood comes to life with merriment, 80s neon charm, a groovy atmosphere, and cool vibe to keep you delighted.

MoMo’s Menu

Of course, a place this cool isn’t cool JUST because of it’s interior, but because of the food as well. Coffee, tacos, burgers, pasta, milkshakes and booze – you name it, MoMo has it!

Although their menu is not very extensive, they do serve heart-warming and good food to fill your belly. And with the on-going Ramadan month, MoMo’s has something that combines classic American flavours with a twist of local elements. Known for its take on dinner classics – burgers, fries and milkshakes – MoMo’s “Mo’ Feast Mo’ Fun” has curated a special Malaysian-inspired menu just for this festive period. We got a taste of it and we’re excited to fill you in on our experience.

Food Review: Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur's Neptune's Feast Seafood Buffet Dinner At The Courtyard

The Mo’ Feast Mo’ Fun comes in two different set menus. The first one is a single set priced at RM40 that includes a burger and a milkshake, and the Family Bundle for 4 priced at RM150 that includes 4 burgers, free flow of sides and refreshing iced teas.

We got the Family Bundle and tried 4 different types of burgers, starting with the classic Cheeseburger. The beef patty is larger in size and slathered in gooey cheddar, but not as thick as regular American burgers. After only one bite, we were in the clouds! The burger was quite filling and delicious. You won’t believe us when we tell you that the buns on their own were also quite excellent. Although the meat lacked flavour, we truly like this burger’s combination of simplicity and deliciousness.

The next burger we tried was the Sambal Loaded Crispy Chicken Burger. This burger mixes perfectly deep-fried chicken with mayonnaise, spring onions, melted cheddar, and sambal, a native flavour. This burger’s combo is unquestionably novel. Yet it did impress us. Every mouthful of the chicken was hot and crispy, which we adored. Also, the sambal gave the burger as a whole a subtle, spicy-sweet flavour. We only have one complaint: the crispy chicken was a tad too salty. Aside from that, the burger itself was excellent.

The third burger we has was the Loaded Sambal Cheeseburger. Similar to the cheeseburger we had earlier, but with the extra ingredient of sambal. We felt like the sambal fit better with the cheeseburger, as it almost tastes like the beef burger from McDonald’s. The only difference was that the tomato puree had been replaced with sambal.

The last burger was Salted Egg Yolk Burger. If you’re a salted egg dish lover, you’ll definitely love this burger. It’s just like the regular crispy chicken burger, but they added the salted egg sauce on top of the cheddar cheese. It was good, but we got full super fast and since it was really rich, we barely finished it.

Now, for the interesting part – milkshakes! MoMo’s serves regular milkshakes, but for Ramadan, they curated something special. For the Ramadan menu, MoMo’s offer 4 types of milkshakes which are sirap bandung, teh tarik, neslo and jagung. Sounds hella interesting, right?

The teh tarik milkshake came with a tiny piece of toasted bread topped with some kaya paste on the side. We had high expectations for this milkshake since it’s one of the locals’ favourite beverages. However, we found that it was too milky. You could only taste the tea after you swallowed. Weird, but the presentation was pretty cool though.

Then we tried neslo. This is our favourite of all the 4 milkshakes. Coffee lovers like us will definitely enjoy this drink. Neslo is a combinaton of milo and coffee. Topped with whipping cream and milo cereal, this drink had a mild milo taste with a kick of coffee right at the back. It was so good.

The next two were rather sweet and super strong flavoured milkshakes. The jagung milkshake tasted exactly like the cream from Gardenia’s jagung buns and the sirap bandung, well, was sirap bandung! We loved them, but they were too sweet for us to handle and we felt that after chowing down rich burgers, the milkshakes were the last things we’d wanna have.

MoMo’s also gave us the Passionfruit Tea and Lychee Tea from the singles menu to try. We loved both drinks, as they were super refreshing especially after having a heavy meal.

For sides, we got the Spiced Popcorn Chicken and House Loaded Cheese Fries. The Spiced Popcorn Chicken sure was crispy and instead of regular fried chicken, you can taste a hint of rendang flavour. We’re guessing it’s the spices used. It was nice and crunchy, but the spice flavour was slightly overwhelming. The cheesy fries was just amazing. Drenched with cheese sauce, mayo and chilli, it was definitely a nice way to have fries. The good news is that if you pick the Family Bundle, sides and drinks are free-flow!
