Deepavali is just around the corner, and if you’re planning to travel during the festive long weekend, here’s a little reminder before you head to the airport!

With more Malaysians expected to travel during the holiday period, AirAsia is reminding passengers to plan ahead and arrive early to avoid unnecessary delays. Travelers may experience long queues at check-in counters, security checks and immigration checkpoints as airports become busier.

Whether you’re flying home to celebrate with family or heading off for a short getaway, here are some important travel tips from AirAsia to make your journey smoother.

Arrive Early & Check Your Flight Status

One of the easiest ways to avoid last-minute stress is to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare. AirAsia advises passengers to arrive at least 2 hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights.

Travelers should also take note of the check-in counter closing times:

  • KLIA Terminal 2: One hour before schedule departure
  • Other Malaysian Airports: 45 minutes before departure for domestic flights

Passengers are encouraged to download the AirAsia MOVE app to check the latest flight updates through its Flight Status feature.

Make Check-In Easier With Self-Service Options

To save time at the airport, AirAsia encouraged passengers to complete their check-in online through the AirAsia MOVE app or airasia.com.

Once checked in, passengers can scan the QR code on their e-Boarding Pass at an airport kiosk to print their baggage tags before proceeding to the self-bag drop counters. Need extra baggage allowance? Travelers can purchase or increase their baggage allowance through the app up to 4 hours before departure.

AirAsia’s e-Boarding Pass is also accepted at all Malaysian airports and many international airports where the airline operates, although some airports may still require a printed boarding pass for verification.

Travelling Overseas? Check Your Visa Requirements!

For those heading overseas, AirAsia reminds passengers to check the latest travel and visa requirements for their destination and any countries they will transit through.

The airline’s Auto Visa Check (AVC) feature makes international check-in easier by allowing travellers to upload or scan their visa documents online.

Passengers can verify most eligible visas or Electronic Travel Authorizations (ETAs) through the AirAsia MOVE app or website from 14 days before departure until 1 hour before their flight. Once the documents are successfully verified, an e-Boarding Pass will be issued. Those whose documents cannot be verified online will need to visit the airport counter for a manual check.

Travellers are also encouraged to download MyNIISe or MyBorderPass for a smoother immigration experience.

Malaysian passport holders can use dedicated QR code and facial recognition lanes at KLIA Terminal 2 by following the app’s instructions to scan their passport details.

Special Assistance & Counter Check-In

AirAsia also reminds passengers that counter check-in services are reserved for selected travelers, including senior citizens, pregnant guests, passengers with reduced mobility, those travelling with infants under 24 months and young passengers travelling alone.

Pregnant passengers must complete a form at the airport counter before boarding. Those who are more than 27 weeks pregnant must also provide an approved doctor’s medical certificate.

Passengers requiring wheelchair assistance can pre-book the service during their flight reservation or through the My Bookings section of the AirAsia MOVE app at least 4 hours before departure.

Don’t Forget To Check Your Cabin Baggage!

Before leaving home, make sure your hand luggage follows AirAsia’s cabin baggage rules.

Each passenger is allowed one cabin bag measuring no more than 56CM x 36CM x 23cm, along with one smaller personal item such as laptop bag, handbag or small bag. The combined weight of both items must not exceed 7KG.

Checking your baggage size and weight before heading to the airport can help you avoid unexpected problems during boarding.

Travel Smart & Enjoy Your Deepavali Holiday!

Whether you’re travelling to reunite with loved ones or taking  a well-deserved festive break, a little preparation can make a big difference.

Remember to check your flight details, prepare your travel documents, follow baggage requirements and arrive early to avoid the holiday rush.

For more information and travel updates, visit airasia.com or check the AirAsia MOVE app. AirAsia wishes everyone celebrating a bright, joyful, and meaningful Deepavali!
