When you’re at a fashion show, it’s normal to see guests go all out with their outfits. But of course, not everyone would be happy to see people take bold fashion risks, leading to some unsavoury comments.

The Penang Fashion Show 2023 recently took place where tons of creative designers showcased their creations and tons of guests showcased their bold outfits. One of those guests was Akim Ahmad, who attended the show to support his fashion designer friend. Like other guests, he decided to dress his best for the event – but his daring look didn’t sit well with many netizens.

At the fashion show, the 26-year-old was interviewed by a content creator, HeryHustlers. In the TikTok video, Akim gave an up-close look at his outfit, which comprised of an oversized blazer and knee-high heeled boots. He also briefly gave some words of encouragement, assumedly to viewers who are also interested in or pursuing fashion.

After the video was uploaded, many netizens left their thoughts about his look. While there were positive comments, most commenters were criticising him as they felt that his look was immodest. In an interview with local media, the Penang native said that he had read the comments after discovering the video had gone viral before adding that he’s not offended by the hate because it’s normal for social media.

He said, “I read all the criticisms. I accept all the comments that advised me. I ignore the bad comments.” The 26-year-old also said he accepts all the criticism he received and may dress more conservatively for future events but thinks that won’t be enough to stop the hate.

We’re glad Akim is not letting criticism bring him down – and we hope to see bolder looks from him in the future.
