Potterheads, prepare to get enchanted by the world of Harry Potter once again.

J.K. Rowling has released new info on The Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA), the American counterpart for the Ministry of Magic, and unveiled the theme song for the upcoming “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them”.

In a Pottermore entry released yesterday (Thursday, 6th October), J.K. Rowling made public the new piece of writing, which gave us a brief history of how MACUSA (pronounced mah – cooz – ah) came to be. As “Fantastic Beasts” takes place in North America, where MACUSA has jurisdiction over, it’s no wonder that the writer chose this topic to elaborate on.

The short piece revealed that MACUSA was founded following the tragic Salem Witch Trials, and 12 powerful Aurors (wizards or witches trained to investigate crimes related to the Dark Arts) were recruited to enforce the laws and regulations. It’s all very interesting, but we’ll let you explore the full piece here.

J.K. Rowling also released a short companion video explaining why she wanted to explore this part of the wizarding world.

That’s not all.

Pottermore has also released the theme song for “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them”. Composed by Grammy and Emmy Award-winning composer James Newton Howard, the song took a total of 7 months to write. Howard revealed that “he sat down at his piano and just played until it came”.

“You hear the main theme song of the movie play when the main crew arrive at the MACUSA the first time and various other times. You hear this haunting kind of theme. If you had to say what is the theme for “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” for now and in the future, it would be that theme,” continued the composer.

The track starts off with the haunting and familiar melody of “Hedwig’s Theme”, and soon fades into the dramatic yet playful tune of the theme song. It’s a completely new song, but somehow strangely familiar. We guess that’s a good mix for the movie, as it’s remotely connected to the world Harry Potter lived in, and yet, could also stand alone by itself.

We can’t wait for the movie!

“Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” is slated for worldwide release on 18th November.
