Mark your calendar, Potterheads!

Warner Bros announced that the first trailer for “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them“ will arrive on 15th December (Tuesday), giving fans of “Harry Potter” just enough time to prepare themselves when the trailer arrives online.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

However, there’s a catch.

The studio stated in the announcement video that the first trailer will be an “announcement trailer”, further revealing that it will “give audiences the first glimpse at a never-before-seen part of the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling”. Fans will probably be seeing the trailer on the big screen before seeing Disney and Lucasfilm’s highly anticipated “Star Wars: The Force Awakens“.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them8

Set in New York City during the 1920s, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is a trilogy series centres on Newt Scamander, a preeminent “magiczoologist” and the author of the Hogwarts textbook of the same name. The story follows the adventures of Scamander and the magical community in the Big Apple.

J.K. Rowling completed the script for the film adaptation last November. She said that the film is “neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series but an extension of the wizarding world”. Eddie Redmayne (of “Theory of Everything” fame) is confirmed to be starring in the spin-off as Scamander.

Ezra Miller signed on for the role of Kredan, “a person with magical powers” who encounters Scamander “when he stops in New York City on his travels to find and document magical creatures”. Katherine Waterson is playing Tina (short for Porpentina) while Alison Sudol will play Tina’s younger sister, Queenie. Dan Fogler is set to play Scamander’s rival, Jacob Kowalski.

Other cast members include Colin Farrell, Jenn Murray, Jon Voight, Carmen Ejogo, Gemma Chan, and newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove.

The official synopsis is as follows:

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

David Yates, who directed the last 4 “Harry Potter” movies, is helming “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”. David Heyman, who produced all 8 of the blockbuster “Harry Potter” features, will serve as the producer of the spin-off movie alongside Rowling, Steve Kloves, and Lionel Wigram, who served as an executive producer on the last 4 installments of the franchise.

The film, which is intended to be the first of a trilogy, will see its release in cinemas on 18th November 2016.
