Mr. Kwon Jae Hoon (Managing Director of Samsung Malaysia Electronics) and Ms Kim Sora (Entertainment Editorial Director of Ilgan Sports) today officiated the launch for the Samsung GALAXY The 27th Golden Disk Awards in Kuala Lumpur (GDA).

On why Kuala Lumpur was chosen to host the prominent event this year, Ms Kim Sora said, “The popularity of K-Pop in the region made Malaysia a natural choice for GDA’s next destination. The reason for holding the awards abrods is in light of growing global popularity and to let the world enjoy K-Pop”.

The awards will fall into the two classifications of “Album” and “Song” awards and the award categories include:

  • Grand Prize in Disk Album
  • Disk Album of The Year
  • Grand Prize in Song of The Year

  • MSN Southeast Asia Award (Vote)
  • MSN International Award  (Vote)
  • New Rising K-POP Star Award

You know what this means though, right?

[youtube id=”sHEFImvzDE8” width=”600″ height=”350″]

K-Pop fans in Malaysia will have their dreams realized as South Korea’s one and only awards ceremony based upon the total sales of discs and digital music files, brings in over 20 of the country’s top artistes to Kuala Lumpur! Which artistes? GDA will see over 20 top K-Pop artistes performing and receiving their awards.

Currently, the list (of nominees who could be coming) includes:

  1. Psy
  2. BIGBANG
  3. Super Junior aka SuJu
  4. KARA
  5. T-ara
  6. CNBlue
  7. F.T. Island
  8. Infinite

Judging criteria includes awards qualification for artistes who released their albums after December 2011, as well as albums and songs that are released or sold between January 2012 to December 2012. The awards are given based on total combined sales volumes of the albums, songs, and judges’ votes.

Nominees may or may not change based on total combined sales volumes of the albums and songs as the committee behind the GDA will have to take updated sales numbers (from this point onwards until January 2013) into consideration. Hence, the confirmed artistes that will definitely be making their way to GDA in Kuala Lumpur will be announced periodically, as time progresses.

There will also be a Popularity Voting for fans to support their favourite artistes available through MSN Popularity Vote which commences 17th December 2012 to 7th January 2013. The pre-recorded telecast of the awards will be broadcasted in South Korea.
