ESCAPE Penang has just made history as the first and only themed destination in Malaysia to have 2 Guinness World Records. Having 1 world-breaking is impressive enough, but 2? Cue the applause people!
As the holder of the world’s longest tube water slide (1,111 metre to be exact), ESCAPE Penang is once again setting a new record with the launch of the world’s longest Zip Coaster (described as a combination of a zip liner and roller coaster).
This remarkable milestone was officiated by Penang Governor T.Y.T. Tun Dato Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi Ahmad Razak alongside Sim Leisure Group founder and chief executive officer, Sim Choo Kheng, with Guinness Book Record (GWR) Adjudicator Pravin Patel (who flew in from London to present the award). Joining the trio were Dato Seri Lee Kah Choon (chairman of Federal Oats Mills Sdn Bhd) and the team from Travelodge Georgetown.
“The idea to install this zip coaster was conceived during the Covid-19 lockdown (June 2020) and we spent around RM700,000 installing the track. We faced several challenges in making the project come true. As it was a jungle area we could not bring heavy machinery into the installation site. We have ensured the safety of the riders and guests can ride the zip coaster in tandem,’ said Sim Choo Kheng.
With the introduction of Zip Coaster, thrill seekers can now enjoy the free-flying sensation of a zip line with ups, downs, and turns on a steel track that is attached to the tree line. By preserving the natural environment, visitors will get to experience the thrill of flying while drinking in the lush greenery as one meanders through the tree tops.
