“Game Of Thrones” fans, rejoice! Your favourite TV series made Emmys history with the most awards ever for a scripted primetime series, as the show now holds 38 wins, beating “Frasier”, which had 37.
The super popular HBO fantasy drama conquered the 2016 Emmy Awards with a total of 12 wins out of 23 nominations, the most nominations this year and more than any of other series for the 3rd year running.
On Sunday night (18th September), the series won awards for Best Drama Series, Best Directing (Miguel Sapochnik), and Best Writing (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss) for “Battle of the Bastards”.
When asked about their record-breaking win, producer and writer D.B Weiss said, “We love ‘Frasier’. They had a long run. We’re sure that somebody will come and take this from us. We just hope that it doesn’t happen until we’re all dead”.
Based on George R. R. Martin’s best-selling book “A Song of Ice and Fire”, “Game Of Thrones” is one of TV’s most watched show and the finale for season 6, which aired in June, broke records with the highest ratings ever for the show with 8.9 million viewers tuning into HBO.
When asked about the show’s big finale (season 8), Emilia Clarke aka Khaleesi admitted to E! News that it’s hard to say goodbye.
“It will be really intense saying good-bye to the show. It will be really, really intense. But it’s still a little ways away, so I kinda have time to have it sink in,” she said.

Previously, HBO confirmed that season 7 will consist of 7 episodes and it is slated for premiere in summer 2017.
