We often mourn for lives lost. In truth, it’s always those left behind who hurt the most. Earlier today (24th November), an accident in a coffee shop in Bahau, Negeri Sembilan resulted in the loss of an elderly lady’s life. She leaves behind her husband, who, unfortunately, bore witness to her passing.
Chen Ruolan (陈如兰) and her husband Chen Ai Ming (陈爱明) had been having breakfast together at a coffee shop earlier this morning, like any loving couple would. However, it turned out to be the last time they would ever dine together.
Around 8am today (24th November), tragedy struck in the form of a car that came crashing in through the coffee shop. It is believed the driver of the car, an elderly man in his 70s, accidentally stepped on the accelerator and lost control of the car, resulting in it careening into the store.
The car struck two women during the sudden crash. One lady survived albeit badly injured. However, 76-year-old Chen Ruolan, who had been sitting near her husband, was killed. The 82-year-old man was unharmed but left in shock at his wife’s sudden passing.
Despite many passers-by offering comfort and help, the old man reportedly refused to move from the spot where he had lost his wife. Photos showed him still sitting in his red plastic chair, his walker beside him as he mourned his wife.
A video from someone’s dashcam showed the crash, but according to China Press, the time and date on the device might not have been set accurately. This is regretfully the second accident this week in which a car was accidentally driven into a coffee shop.
Our hearts go out to Mr. Chen and we offer our condolences for the loss of his wife. We sincerely pray he will find peace in her passing soon.
