Education Ministry Likely To Postpone UPSR, PT3, SPM, STPM & STAM

Due to the ongoing movement control order (MCO) that’s likely to carry on until we flatten the curve, the Education Ministry will most probably postpone major examinations in the country.

Malaysiakini reported that the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and the Penilaian Tingkatan 3 (PT3) exams are probably going to be pushed back to early and late December respectively.

Meanwhile, those sitting for Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) and the third-semester of Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) may only take place in January and February respectively next year.

“The Education Ministry will be meeting to finalise the dates for the examinations and an announcement is expected to be made by the minister in the near future,” the Ministry of Education told the publication. “The postponements are necessary due to the extension of the MCO and the government’s decision not to restart school sessions immediately after the MCO ends.”

“To postpone is fair to all the students who are going to sit for the exams. Syllabuses are behind time. It’s a fact, no good results can’t get into a good school/university. Also, health is everything,” Facebook user Yvonne Pang wrote.

“In order to recover back lost (time) during MCO period, (the Ministry) can change to school term holiday period during this MCO period, and when school (reopens, cancel the holidays) for all schools,” Vincent Ong suggested in the comments section.

Having said that, Deputy Education Ministers Mah Hang Soon and Muslimin Yahaya have advice the public to wait for the official announcement.
