Winter is coming but this time, it is arriving in summer! The world of Westereos is officially heading to cinemas, with the first Game of Thrones movie, Aegon’s Conquest, scheduled for release on 6th June 2029.
After 8 seasons of Game of Thrones and two spin-off series, fans will finally get to experience George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world on the big screen. And this time, the story is taking us back several centuries to explore the beginnings of one of Westeros’ most famous royal families.
A Journey Back to The Beginning of House Targaryen
While details about the film remain limited, Aegon’s Conquest will reportedly follow Aegon I, the founder of Targaryen dynasty and his conquest of Westeros centuries before the events of the original television series.
For fans familiar with Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, the film will offer a look at the history of the royal family that eventually produced the Mother of Dragons.

Although several members of the Targaryen family have appeared throughout the franchise, Aegon I himself has never been seen on screen. His casting has also yet to be announced, leaving fans with plenty to look forward to as more details emerge.
Familiar Names Are Bringing Westeros to Cinemas
The upcoming film will be directed by Owen Harris, who is already familiar with the Game of Thrones universe. He serves as an executive producer of HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and directed several episodes of its first season.
His previous work also includes episodes of Black Mirror, the 2019 remake of The Twilight Zone and Brave New World, starring Alden Ehrenreich.

The screenplay will be written by Beau Wilimon, who previously served as showrunner of Netflix’s House of Cards and worked as a writer on Disney+’s Star Wars series Andor.
With both filmmakers bringing experience from major television production, Aegon’s Conquest marks a new chapter for the franchise as it makes its move from television to cinemas.
More ‘Game of Thrones’ Stories Are On The Way
Thankfully, fans will not have to wait until 2029 for another trip to Westeros. HBO’s House of the Dragon, which explores the Targaryen family’s history, is set to return for a fourth season. Meanwhile, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has already been renewed for a second season.
Both series continued to explore the world created by George R.R. Martin, whose bestselling fantasy novels inspired the original Game of Thrones television series.

The original show ran for eight seasons between 2011 and 2019 becoming a major television success and winning numerous Emmy Awards.
With two spin-off series continuing on television and Aegon’s Conquest heading to cinemas, there is plenty of Westeros left to explore. The countdown to 6th June 2029 has officially begun!
