Malaysian feature film, HER SECOND ACT, kickstarts its international festival journey with official selections at the Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) and Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest), ahead of its upcoming theatrical release.
Blending humour, heart and emotional honesty, the film follows Sandra, a middle-aged mother whose unexpected cycling victory disrupts the quiet routine of family life.

The film marks significant milestones for its cast
Malaysian comedy star Douglas Lim takes on his first leading dramatic feature role as a conservative husband, balancing humour, sarcasm and vulnerability to create the film’s complex and relatable family dynamic.
To portray Sandra, local actress Jojo Goh learned to cycle from scratch and underwent intensive training, overcoming her fears in a journey that mirrors her character’s own transformation.

Director Joey Lee Choi Kin describes the film as a celebration of resilience and reinvention:
“I wanted to make a film that could laugh at life while quietly breaking your heart. HER SECOND ACT is about the courage to begin again and the breakthrough. That’s why I love the tagline, ‘She’s Not Done Yet.‘ Because no matter where we are in life, there is always an exciting journey waiting to be explored.”

Developed since 2022, HER SECOND ACT has received support from FINAS, the ARRI International Support Grant for First-Time Directors, Full Circle Lab, and the Shanghai International Film Festival Work-in-Progress programme, before arriving on the festival stage.
Following its selections at DANAFF (Panorama of Asian Cinema) and MIFFest (Malaysian Dispatch), HER SECOND ACT will continue its international festival run before its theatrical release. Because… she’s not done yet!
