After much anticipation, Marvel has finally announced the official cast members for its upcoming superhero film, “Doctor Strange“.
In addition, the studio has also announced production on the film has officially begun.
Benedict Cumberbatch is confirmed to be playing the main protagonist, Doctor Stephen Strange. In the movie, he will be battling against Baron Mordo, a villain who will played by Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Other cast members include “Hannibal” star Mads Mikkelsen, “Mean Girl” star Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Tilda Swinton. McAdams is attached to play the female lead, though her role is kept under wraps. Stuhlbarg will play Doctor Nicodemus West while Mikkelsen is rumoured to be playing a villain as well.
“Doctor Strange” is the latest film in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The 3rd phase of the MCU aims to continue the adventures of fan favourites and introduce audiences to new heroes.
The big screen adaptation will be directed by Scott Derrickson (of “Sinister” and “Deliver Us From Evil” fame) and its screenplay will be written by “The Mummy” reboot scribe Jon Spaihts (of “Prometheus” fame). The story will follow Doctor Stephen Strange, a cocky neurosurgeon who discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions after a horrific car accident.
Marvel’s announcement came weeks after several set photos in Nepal emerged online. Filming will continue to take place in few other locations around the world, including London, New York, and Hong Kong.
“Doctor Strange” is set to be released on 4th November 2016.
