Netflix and Shondaland announced Thursday that the streamer has a new limited series spinoff in the works in the “Bridgerton” universe, this time focused on a young Lady Violet.
The series doesn’t have a name yet, and is being referred to right now as the “untitled Bridgerton project.” But Netflix noted that the rollout will be similar to the previous “Bridgerton” spinoff “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,” so it would seemingly make sense for it to eventually be called “Lady Violet: A Bridgerton Story”.
Frequent Rhimes collaborator Tom Verica, whose credits include “Bridgerton” and “Queen Charlotte,” as well as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal,” is set to serve as director/executive producer. And longtime Shondaland creative partner Betsy Beers is executive producer as well.
The brief logline reads: “Similar to the massive global hit ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,’ the series will chronicle the early life of a young Lady Violet and tell the story of her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.”
In the original “Bridgerton,” Lady Violet Bridgerton is played by English actress Ruth Gemmell. In “Queen Charlotte,” a teenage Violet Ledger is played by Connie Jenkins-Greig.
It’s unclear whether Jenkins-Greig will reprise her role for the new “Bridgerton” spinoff, or if any of the other stars of “Queen Charlotte” or “Bridgerton” will appear in the new spinoff.
Season 5 of “Bridgerton” is also currently in production in London, with the focus on Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza). The series continued to be a hit in Season 4, premiering at No. 1 on Netflix’s Global English TV list, while “Queen Charlotte,” which ran for six episodes in 2023, debuted at No. 1 in 91 countries.
