You wouldn’t believe it even if we told you, but rest assured, we’re not making this up. deadmau5 is getting a musical!
A recent casting call for the Toronto Fringe Festival has unearthed a potential electronic music stage show starring deadmau5, but it’s not a DJ set, and Joel Zimmerman has nothing to do with it. It’s a full blown musical with singing, dancing, and some show tunes at Toronto’s Red Sandcastle Theatre, 23rd July.
The synopsis reads:
“Deadmouse: The Musical” tells the story of a mouse who wants to be a house DJ but is discriminated against for being a mouse.
The play follows Joel Zimmermouse, a great House music DJ who struggles to believe in himself while trying to “make it big”. Joel is joined by his best friend, David Goudda, on his hopeful track to success. Inspiring and motivating Joel along the way is his love interest, Cat, but their relationship is anything but smooth sailing.
As Joel, David and Cat navigate the complex world of House music DJing and it’s elitist human prejudices, Joel encounters his less-than-friendly DJ idol, Avicheese. Blinded by jealousy, Avicheese ends up seriously harming Joel in his attempt to remain at the top of the House music DJing universe. Luckily for Joel, St. Peter is a huge house music fan!
Joel ends up facing some tough decisions about how far he will go to become the number one House music DJ, and on the way learns some valuable lessons about friendship, love, loyalty and the importance of remaining true to one’s heart, no matter how small it may be.
This play was inspired by the real life house music DJ Deadmau5, and the question of what his life and career would be like if he were an actual mouse.
They’ve even got quite a cast to participate in the musical, complete with questionable, parodied names e.g. Avicii aka Avicheese, David Guetta aka David Guodda, Kat Von D aka Cat Von D, etc. Obviously referring to all the TMZ drama that the notorious and controversial producer has fueled over the years. Except maybe funnier, we think?

We always knew that stranger things have happened and will continue to happen, but this just takes the cake, uhm, cheese. Can’t wait to see how many mau5 fans will turn up to catch the show 😀
UPDATE (18th June, 9am):
Welp, it was only a matter of time before this happened – deadmau5 just lawyered up and issued a cease and desist letter to the organisers behind “Deadmouse the Musical”, The Al Green Theatre. As mentioned, the mau5 himself (Joel Zimmerman) had nothing to do with the production, hence the legal action as the name “Deadmouse” alone infringes the deadmau5 trademark.
He has taken to Twitter to retaliate:
