DC fans, are y’all ready to meet a new hero on the big screen? That’s right, Shazam is finally getting his long-awaited live-action superhero debut.

After some setbacks and reshuffling, DC Extended Universe has officially set a released date for “Shazam” in 2019. David F. Sandberg (“Lights Out”, “Annabelle: Creation”) confirmed that he will be coming onboard as director.

For the uninitiated, Shazam was an orphaned boy named Billy Batson who got his powers from a powerful wizard after he stumbled upon an underground tunnel that led to a magical portal.

He was then gifted with properties of 6 “immortal elders”: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury. Whenever he uttered the name Shazam, he could call upon magic lightning and be transformed into a muscular superhero with the ability to fly.

It was initially reported that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be playing the villainous Black Adam in “Shazam” before getting his own standalone film. However, recent news stated that The Rock won’t be involved in this “Shazam” movie.

“Justice League” is currently in post-production and re-shoots while cameras are already rolling for “Aquaman”. Development is also underway for “The Batman”, “Batgirl”, sequels for “Wonder Woman” and “Suicide Squad”, as well as “Gotham City Sirens”.

“Shazam” will begin shooting in early 2018, and will hit cinemas in 2019.
