The only way to find things out for yourself is to “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes”. Well, Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Haji Fadillah recently did just that.
After Mavcom (Malaysian Aviation Commission) announced revised PSC rates at KLIA, most weren’t happy, claiming poor facilities and services. Well, it seems Dato Sri Haji can now confirm the allegations as he has experienced being an ‘international tourist’ firsthand at KLIA!
Reportedly, Dato Sri Haji sprung a surprise visit to KLIA 1 yesterday (14th March) to discover for himself what international tourists undergo when entering Malaysia. “This experience will be used as a guide during the conference on the congestion at the international gates that will be held today (14th March) in Parliment,” he explained.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, his journey began at the KLIA Satellite Building where he joined a group of passengers headed to the immigration counter at the International Arrival Gate. “I lined up with the tourists who had just arrived to verify their passports for a wait time of about 10 minutes,” he shared. From photos, he could also be seen observing the surrounding area during his trip.
They were later informed by the Immigration department and Malaysia Airports Holdings BHD (MAHB) that the waiting time could take up to 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours during peak hours. As for Dato Sri Haji himself, he discovered that the waiting time could take up to 30 minutes at non-peak hours.
Well, we certainly applaud Dato Sri Haji’s dedication to discovering the situation for himself. Hopefully, what insight he gained during his surprise inspection will contribute to improving KLIA’s services for its guests.
