Taiwanese internet personality Daniel Lee (李岳) hasn’t exactly had the best time in Malaysia. Regretfully, this has led to his view of our country changing, and not for the better.

Daniel Lee reportedly came to Malaysia last month for work. Unfortunately, while here, Daniel apparently lost his credit card. He has done what he can to deal with the issue, but was left less than satisfied by how Malaysian police have treated the case.

According to his YouTube video uploaded on 21st September, Daniel had actually discovered his credit card had fallen from his purse and been stolen on 18th August. The YouTuber had been awake around 5am as they were about to leave for Singapore to film and received multiple notifications informing him that his card was being used. “The amount of each stolen transaction was NT$2,600 (~RM379),” he shared.

With 15 transections in total, Daniel reportedly suffered a loss of NT$39,000 (~RM5683). However, he explained he was only able to report the incident to Malaysian police on 23rd September when he had completed his work in Singapore. The YouTuber visited the Dang Wangi police station where he was surprised by the size of the building and their security, as he and his team reportedly had to hand in their phones to pass into the station.

There, Daniel claims he was thoroughly interrogated about the incident. “They will ask you a lot of information, such as the hotel you were staying at at the time,” he shared. “They (also) asked detailed questions, including the date and month (it went missing), how and where it was lost, when was the last time (we) saw the credit card, how did we know it was lost, where was it swiped and how much money (I) lost.”

Daniel later shared that he was especially dissatisfied with how he had been treated by the female police officer in charge of his case. He claimed she had been very unfriendly while speaking to them. “We will definitely not be clear about your process, but she (the policewoman) (seemed to think) we were stupid and did not understand (at all),” he said.  “But, she smiled happily when speaking to others.”

The YouTuber had also been left frustrated by the language barrier as the officer allegedly could not speak Chinese. Thankfully, some Malaysians offered to interpret for them and they were finally able to leave the station after an hour.

Still, despite the detailed questioning, Daniel claims the police have yet to follow up on his case. Additionally, the YouTuber alleged it has been over a month since his report, leaving him very disappointed. Daniel claims his Malaysian friends had warned him the case could take time to process as the police would need “approval from (their) superiors on whether to take the case“.

We’re truly sorry to hear that such an incident befell Daniel Lee, and we hope his case will be resolved soon. In the meantime, we do hope others will be cautious about their belongings while in Malaysia to hopefully avoid such incidents in the future.
