Ramadan bazaars are everywhere at this time of year, offering a wide array of delicious food options to enjoy. However, it can be a gamble for Muslims, as there’s no way to know if the food lives up to expectations until it’s time to break fast.
Unfortunately, one man discovered this the hard way. Recently, TikTok user @/azfar55 purchased murtabak at a Ramadan bazaar, only to be disappointed by its size when he unwrapped it at home.

As shown in the screenshot above, the TikTok user humorously tried to highlight his frustration by placing his car key—purchased two years ago—next to the murtabak to compare their sizes. It’s clear from the image that the two items are almost identical in size. In his replies to netizens in the comments section, the man revealed that the murtabak cost him RM6.
He explained that he bought it from a stall near Bangi, Selangor, where the prices weren’t displayed, nor was it indicated that it was meant to be a “mini murtabak.” Unfortunately, the customer didn’t have much time to check, as it was already 7 pm when he made the purchase, and he only discovered the actual size after arriving home. “I didn’t even get to eat any of it; my kid finished it alone,” he wrote.

Unfortunately, the TikTok user isn’t the only one to have had this kind of experience. Earlier this week, another customer posted a video online showcasing the surprising texture of a kuih she bought. She hadn’t expected the snack to be rock hard— in the video, she’s seen bashing it against the table, but it remains unbreakable. Many others have also shared similar stories of disappointment with their Ramadan bazaar purchases, citing issues such as overpriced dishes, expired food, or a lack of filling.
For your next visit to a Ramadan bazaar, be sure to inspect the food before taking it home—you wouldn’t want to be disappointed by the portion size or, worse, risk food poisoning. Here’s the clip of the woman trying to break the indestructable kuih:
