Ordering yong tau foo is as simple as ordering economy rice because you pick what you want from a selection of ingredients and then pay for what you ordered. Of course, the ease comes with a big asterisk – the price, because yong tau foo can get expensive too.

In a Facebook post, Azura Baharudin shared her experience ordering yong tau foo at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur food court. While most food courts offer cheap food options, the food at Pavilion’s food court can get pretty pricey, explaining why Azura had to fork out a whopping RM94.20 for two bowls of yong tau foo.

According to the receipt, Azura ordered 16 ingredients, including enoki mushrooms, fish balls, and squid. In her post, she explained that she’s not angry about the total amount but is disappointed in herself for not paying attention to the price before choosing her ingredients. She also said she doesn’t blame the workers of the food court stall because she understands that the price reflects the location.

As Azura’s post went viral, many people commented how the price isn’t surprising, given the location and the mall’s rental fee. A few others also shared their experience of paying a high amount after eating at the mall’s food court. Some comments even shared some advice when ordering yong tau foo, stating that the choice is up to the individual ordering, so be mindful when choosing.

While she may be disappointed for not being more careful, we commend Azura for owning up instead of blaming the stall workers for the high price.
